Bidding Prayer for the Nation of Japan
A At this time of great tragedy in the islands of
P Almighty God, since You know that we are set in the midst of so many and great dangers that by reason of the frailty of our nature we cannot always stand upright, grant us such strength and protection as may support us in all dangers and carry us through all temptations; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

A Let us also pray for our nation.
P Almighty God, You have given us this good land as our heritage. Grant that we remember Your generosity and constantly do Your will. Bless our land with honest industry, truthful education, and an honorable way of life. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil course of action. Make us who come from many nations with many different languages a united people. Defend our liberties, and give those whom we have entrusted with the authority of government the spirit of wisdom that there may be justice and peace in our land. When times are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful; and in troubled times do not let our trust in You fail; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

A Let us pray for those who have been injured, for the families of those who mourn, and for those who wait to learn the fate of their loved ones.
P Almighty and everlasting God, the consolation of the sorrowful and the strength of the weak, graciously hear our prayers on behalf of those who have been injured in this catastrophe. Protect them and, if You so will, spare their lives. To the families of those who mourn, give comfort and peace. And to those who must now wait for their loved ones to be found amidst the devastation, grant patience, peace, and hope. Provide opportunities to us, Your holy people, to speak the comforting message of Your abiding presence and the hope of everlasting life for all who die in the faith; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

A Let us pray for the police, fire, and rescue workers, radiation teams, the medical personnel and all others who continue to search for and treat the injured and dead.
P O Lord God, You have called men and women to various vocations through which they care for the needs of others. We implore You to watch over and protect all who are working to care for those in need: the police and other law enforcement officials, firefighters, rescue workers, doctors, nurses, technicians, and counselors and other aid workers. Defend them from all dangers, and give them courage and endurance to attend to their tasks to the best of their abilities and to the welfare of those under their care; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

A Let us pray for our military personnel.
P O Lord God of hosts, stretch forth Your almighty arm to strengthen and protect those who serve in the armed forces of our country. Support them in times of war, and in times of peace keep them from all evil, giving them courage and loyalty and granting that in all things they may serve honestly and without reproach; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

A Finally, let us pray for inner peace which comes through Christ alone.
P O God, for whom come all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works. Give to us, Your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, that our hearts may be set to obey Your commandments and also that we, being defended from the fear of our enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
