DURING THE SEASON OF LENT WE ARE LED BY GOD
FROM DEATH TO LIFE.
Beginning with Ash Wednesday this month, we will journey with God from his Suffering Christ to his Easter Christ. From his death and ours, to his resurrection and ours. I will let the Good Doctor Rev. Martin Luther explain our coming Journey of Lent (boldface emphases mine):
※Let this, then, be the sum of the Second Article of the Creed that the little word Lord means simply Redeemer, i.e., He who has brought us from Satan to God, from death to life, from sin to righteousness, and who preserves us in the same. But all the points which follow in order in this Article serve no other end than to explain and express this redemption, how and whereby it was accomplished, that is, how much it cost Him, and what He spent and risked that He might win us and bring us under His dominion, namely, that He became man, conceived and born without any stain of sin, of the Holy Ghost and of the Virgin Mary, that He might overcome sin; moreover, that He suffered, died and was buried, that He might make satisfaction for me and pay what I owe, not with silver nor gold, but with His own precious blood. And all this in order to become my Lord; for He did none of these for Himself, nor had He any need of it.§
※And after that He rose again from the dead, swallowed up and devoured death, and finally ascended into heaven and assumed the government at the Father's right hand, so that the devil and all powers must be subject to Him and lie at His feet, until finally, at the last day, He will completely part and separate us from the wicked world, the devil, death, sin, etc.§ [Large Catechism of Martin Luther, II, 31].
Why so much Church during Lent and Holy Week? This is how God the Spirit keeps us in faith. And while our lives as Christians will improve, we can only hope to become &half holy.* Yet there is a happy ending found in the Message of Easter. Luther continues#
※Meanwhile, however, while holiness has begun and is growing daily in this Christian Community, we expect that our flesh will be destroyed and buried with all its uncleanness, and will come forth gloriously and arise to entire and perfect holiness in a new eternal life.§
※For now we are only half pure and holy, so that the Holy Ghost has to ever continue His work in us through the Word, and daily to dispense forgiveness, until we attain to that life where there will be no more forgiveness, but only perfectly pure and holy people, full of godliness and righteousness, removed and free from sin, death, and all evil, in a new, immortal, and glorified body.§
※Behold, all this is to be the office and work of the Holy Spirit, that He begin and daily increase holiness upon earth by means of these two things, the Christian Church and the forgiveness of sins. But in our dissolution He will accomplish it altogether in an instant, and will forever preserve us therein by the last two parts§ [Church and Forgiveness] (LC II, 57-59).
May God keep you in this Sacred Journey from death into life at Christ the King this Lent and Easter. And bring a journeyman with you, be it a relative, friend, neighbor.

Thank you for your prayers, meals and other acts of love during Valerie's fight with ovarian cancer. With your help, the warmth of the Christmas gospel, and my mother-in-law Florence living with us, God allowed us to keep his Christmas well and family life intact.
Valerie is in her third chemotherapy session (3 weeks/dose) and is scheduled for abdominal surgery February 13.
She continues to do administrative work for our Preschool (such as State Licensing work) and tending to our children.
Keep us in your prayers and we look forward to a meaningful Lent with all of you.

Our Sunday School, preschool and PDO students will be given a Lenten sticker devotional before Ash Wednesday by their teachers. God continues to bless our preschool as the second half of the school year gets underway at Christ the King. We currently have 15 students enrolled in our program and many families have already expressed their interest in enrolling for 2012-2013. With so many students at CTK everyday our teachers report that the current Little Tikes climber is in need of replacement. If you have a new climber to donate or are interested in helping the preschool purchase a new one, please contact director Valerie Schultz.
Our Parent*s Day Out program also continues to grow. Seven students regularly attend on Tuesday and eight students are enrolled in the Thursday session. The newly remodeled nursery has proved to be a great location for hosting the program, especially with the new sink and beautifully painted walls. Please remember that if you use the nursery on Sunday or during fellowship events to return it back to the condition it was in so our PDO teachers, students and visitors always find it in good condition.
Finally, a special thank you to our Sunday School students for beautifying our 3pm Christmas Eve worship service with song and scripture. With many visitors in attendance it was wonderful to see our children energetically share the good news of Christ*s birth.

The preschool and the PDO class have had a great time exploring winter. Please come and check out the halls and see the snowmen, snowflakes, polar bears, and our home connection projects. Great Job!
We also have been talking about Jesus and how John baptized Him in the Jordan river. That*s a lot of ※J§ words.
We are always looking for donations and help. If you are willing to help in anyway please let someone on the preschool staff. A big thanks goes out to Mrs. Doreen Wagner for all of her help sorting and preparing preschool and PDO projects.

A new roof ($6128) has been installed on the parsonage. The bathroom work will continue into the summer. We are working with pastor*s family to fit in the work when it has the least impact on Valerie*s recovery.
Additional money was received from insurance (approx. $1000)
We can also report the commitment made to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod ($4800) was paid in full by the end of 2011.
We continue to live for Christ content that He will provide for us all each and every day.
